WILLIAMS TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

“Preparing Professional Educators to be Effective Communicators Who Integrate and Care”

 

Students seeking admission into the WTEP must fulfill the following criteria:

a.       Completed 45 semester hours

b.      Submit a copy of your current transcript to the WTEP office.  A copy may be obtained from the registrar's office.

c.     Have a C or above in each of the following courses:  EN1113 English Comp I; EN1123 English Comp II; SP2183 Speech & Communication; MT1133 College Algebra OR MT1153 Contemporary Math; ED2203 Introduction to Teaching

d.       Have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 (4.00 scale) at time of admission request.

e.      Satisfy the ADE minimum score requirements on Praxis I:  Pre-Professional Skills Test.  Williams complies with the ADE minimum score requirements on each test.  Official Praxis I scores must be on file in the WBC Registrar's office and a copy on file in the WTEP/Education Office.

f.      Autobiographical sketch ( two pages, double-spaced) to include the following:

     1.  Brief history of yourself

     2.  Circumstances that directed you to Williams

     3.  Why you chose teaching

     4.  Goals and expectations for your life and education

     5.  Any other life-changing or major events in your life

     The autobiographical sketch will be read by the committee, as well as your future cooperating teachers and principals.  Therefore, extremely personal information should not be included.  After your advisor has approved your autobiography and signed below, submit your autobiography to the Education Office.

g.   Two letters of recommendation from Williams Baptist College Faculty

h.   Portfolio prepared and brought to interview.

Interviews will be conducted in a professional manner. Students are expected to dress appropriately, use proper grammar, and present a professional demeanor.  Any questions about the interviews should be directed to the WTEP office or your advisor.

After the criteria and procedures listed above have been met, the WTEP Admission Committee will inform each applicant in writing of admission into the WTEP.

An appeal process exists.  Information can be obtained in the WTEP affairs office.  A student can initiate an appeal at any step of the WTEP process (admission, retention, student teacher program admission, dismissal, and exit).

*Teacher Education Program Admission Committee schedules interview dates once each semester in April and October.  Materials must be hand-delivered to the Department of Education on or by a posted deadline prior to each interview date.  The WTEP Affairs Coordinator will schedule an interview date and time.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to confirm the interview date and time with the WTEP Affairs Coordinator.
