WILLIAMS TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

“Preparing Professional Educators to be Effective Communicators Who Integrate and Care”

Students seeking admission into the WTEP must fulfill the following criteria:

a.       Completed 45 semester hours, 12 of which must have been completed at Williams Baptist College.  Included in these 45 semester hours must be EN 1113, EN 1123, SP 2183, and MT 1133/MT 1153, or any higher level course in mathematics.  Minimum grade of “C” for each of these courses.

b.      Complete ED 2203 Introduction to Teaching with a minimum grade of “C.”

c.       Have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 (4.00 scale) at time of admission request.

d.      Satisfy the ADE minimum score requirements on Praxis I:  Pre-Professional Skills Test.  Williams complies with the ADE minimum score requirements on each test.  An official record of these scores must be given to the Williams Baptist College Registrar’s Office before the time of admission request.

e.       Demonstrate communication skills by expressing personal observations and expectations concerning education.  This requires an autobiographical sketch, a portfolio, two letters of recommendation to the Department of Education, and an interview with the WTEP Admission Committee.*

After the criteria and procedures listed above have been met, the WTEP Admission Committee will inform each applicant in writing of admission into the WTEP.

An appeal process exists.  Information can be obtained in the WTEP affairs office.  A student can initiate an appeal at any step of the WTEP process (admission, retention, student teacher program admission, dismissal, and exit).

*Teacher Education Program Admission Committee schedules interview dates once each semester in April and October.  Materials must be hand-delivered to the Department of Education on or by a posted deadline prior to each interview date.  The WTEP Affairs Coordinator will schedule an interview date and time.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to confirm the interview date and time with the WTEP Affairs Coordinator.

The Williams Teacher Education Program is a department of Williams Baptist College
